Nature Ed-Ventures

Nature Ed-Ventures has a tradition of offering excellent public programs focusing on natural history, cultural history and adventure programs. The following programs are offered to the general public:

  • Family Weekends – Four themed weekends are scheduled throughout the year (January, March, May, August and October) which offer a variety of activities for families with children of all ages.
  • Special day-long events will be offered at select times of year. Call to be placed on mailing list.
  • A Women's Only Weekend – Save the dates of September 17-19, 2010 for this new adventure designed with busy women in mind!
  • Housing for our Camp Allegany overnight programs is in comfortable, indoor rooms. Bedrooms have five single beds allowing friends and family to share a room. Modern restrooms and showers are located in the same building as the bedrooms. No need to trek outside in the middle of the night!

Cabin Fever Family Weekend
January 23-24, 2010
Camp Allegany, Allegany State Park

Pack your pajamas and outdoor clothes for a weekend of adventure. Share the magic of winter as we explore the wonders of this special time of year through guided hikes, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, learning how to build a snow shelter, discovering the science of snow, enjoying a campfire and much more. In the event there is no snow, exciting alternative programs will take place.

The Sweet Taste of Spring Family Weekend
March 20-21, 2010
Camp Allegany, Allegany State Park

Snow might be on the ground, but Spring's in the air! Time for you and your family to make fresh maple syrup, perfect for pancakes! We'll familiarize you with the people – from the Native Americans to the early settlers to the modern day syrup producers with visits to our sugar house and sugar camps. Hikes to the sugar bush, nature activities, a campfire and nature crafts will round out this year's fun-filled weekend.

Spring Wildflower Weekend

Join us at Allegany State Park for a weekend of wildflower walks and folklore, fossil hunting, stream studies and star watches. Add games, a campfire, good food and the sense of freedom of being “out in the woods” and you have an unforgettable experience. Ideal for families with young children.

Awesome August Family Camp

Instead of sending the kids off to summer camp, bring the whole family for a weekend at Camp Allegany and know the joy of a summer camp experience. Spend your time together relaxing, exploring, learning and having fun! Hike, build and launch a rocket, create a forest shelter, investigate insects, make nature crafts and eat s’mores around the campfire plus much more. Make this a summer weekend full of memories not soon to be forgotten.

Women's Outdoor Weekend

Looking for some quality time away from the hustle and bustle of your busy schedule? Camp Allegany is the place to be! Again this year, we'll prepare the meals, do the dishes and let you pick what you want to do from a variety of program offerings. Activities include nature hikes, star gazing, outdoor skills, self-defense, aromatherapy, massages, and much more. So enjoy quality time with old friends and new as we create a special weekend for you “in the woods!” Contact us for a complete packet of information.

Halloween Harvest Family Weekend
October 16-17, 2010
Camp Allegany, Allegany State Park

Register early for this extremely popular Halloween-themed weekend! Pumpkins, apples, cornhusk dolls, bat and owls, and other special Halloween surprises will be part of this year's spooky weekend for families with children of all ages.


Fees for the family weekends are as follows:
$80 for ages 5+
$40 for 2-4 year olds
Under 2 free

Fee includes comfortable indoor accommodations with showers, three home-cooked meals, and all program materials and activities.

Nature Ed-Ventures has been the recipient of grants to work with underserved audiences in the WNY community. At the present time we are actively involved with community centers on Buffalo's east and west sides as well as with Girl Scouts that are part of our identified audience.
